Netflix had another hit on its hands with The Sandman, but if you think the story began or ended there, you are sadly mistaken. To the contrary…. First there were the comics, of course. At New York Comic Con, however, fans had the opportunity to enter the Dream Realm themselves…. Courtesy of Audible. The first two acts of Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimed audiobook series have been available since 2020 and 2021. Act III is now available, and the Amazon audiobook company revealed it in fantastically spectacular fashion this past weekend with its NYCC 2022 experience, “The Sandman Dream Portal by Audible and DC.”
In 3D audio, The Sandman: Act III follows Morpheus “on a grand journey to take care of family business. He visits with his son Orpheus (Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page). [It’s] an act that brings with it profound consequences…. [A]t an inn at the intersection of all worlds, a group of travelers are forced together by a storm that threatens to destroy reality itself, with grave repercussions for Morpheus and the rest of the Endless.” The Dream Portal at NYCC provided an immersive dive into the story with stunning effects.
Dream Portal transports fans right into The Sandman: Act III
The Dream Portal was indeed an experience, luring fans into another world by Neil Gaiman’s narration from The Sandman: Act III. From there you journey through the ethereal dream realm, complete with ghostly apparitions, before gazing through otherworldly windows into the minds of the story’s characters. At times you truly feel like you’ve entered Dream’s kingdom. The experience, as well as the story driving it, provided a visual and auditory experience unlike any other.
The Sandman: Act III truly does provide a “fully immersive listening experience” as billed. James McAvoy (His Dark Materials) returns as the voice of Morpheus. Some familiar names from the original cast join McAvoy once again, as well, including Kat Dennings (Death) and Aidan Turner (Cluracan). A surprise addition to the cast is none other than Star Trek’s Wil Wheaton. It’s time to close your eyes and dream… or in this case, Listen.
The Sandman: Act III is now available on Audible.
