There is just one episode left in Season One of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. If what the cast told the crowd at New York Comic Con today is true, the season finale will be one for the ages. So much so, in fact, that at least three of the cast members declared that their favorite scenes of the entire series thus far all occur in the upcoming Episode 8. So what, exactly, has made Season One in general, and the season finale in particular, so special? For starters, you can get a glimpse for yourself in the season finale trailer first seen at NYCC 2022 earlier today:
It was abundantly clear, from the way cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Miriel), Daniel Weyman (the “Stranger”), and the others described it, that there are two driving factors behind the LOTR prequel series’ success. The first is the attention to detail poured into The Rings of Power. Leon Wadham (Kemen) was practically giddy in describing the extent of care that went into constructing the sets for Numinor. For Sarah Zwangobani (Marigold), it was the attention that producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have paid to the lore of LOTR. But…. For all the cast, though, here was something much more important.
The Rings of Power is a tribute to its actors and Tolkien
There wasn’t one among the cast on hand that didn’t laud the feeling of family and camaraderie among the cast. Several, including Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), immediately pointed to Weyman’s presence on set and instant connection with Markella Kavenagh (Norri). The cast even watched the first three episodes together, forming at tight bond among a group of actors that will be together for at least another season, and likely more.
The question remains, though: what is going to happen in the season finale of The Rings of Power? Everyone was expectedly tight-lipped…. But we did get an unexpected first look at a scene from Episode 8. In it the elves discuss creating a vessel of power, putting Celebrimdor’s forge to the test. Surprisingly, what would eventually become “the ring” was originally intended to be a (SPOILER) crown! Still, Edwards promised, jewelry is “imminent.”
Buckle your seats, folks. The Rings of Power Season One finale airs on week from today on Amazon Prime Video.
