It’s been three years since our favorite angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and devil Crowley (David Tennant) first graced our screens courtesy of Amazon Studios. A little luck and a lot of trickery saw the odd coupling of friends save the world and seemingly slip off into their eternal lives. Things are not always as they seem, however. New (mis)adventures are afoot as the characters return for Good Omens Season 2. We got a glimpse of what’s in store for the second season of Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimed series at NYCC 2022 today.
Supposed sworn enemies, Aziraphale and Crowley developed acquaintance, and later friendship, over eons of existence. Good Omens Season 2 again follows the unlikely duo’s adventures through the earthly realm. They’re joined in the show’s sophomore season by familiar faces as Gaiman just couldn’t let go of Season 1 favorites Maggie Service and Nina Sosanya. They’ll play completely news roles of… Maggie and Nina.
Fun and Surprises at Good Omens Season 2 NYCC 2022 Panel
Maggie runs a record shop next to Aziraphale’s bookstore, directly across from Nina’s coffee shop, in Soho. Nina, this time around, plays what Gaiman described as the “grumpiest character” he’s ever written. New to the cast is Quelin Sepulveda, who will play the naïve angel Muriel. In a clip from Good Omens Season 2 we got to see Sepulveda’s comedic chops in full display.
Also returning is Jon Hamm as Gabriel. Hamm made a surprise, recorded appearance at the panel together with Michael Sheen and David Tennant. The trio teased about their characters;’ futures, Hamm joking that Gabriel’s first appearance in Season 2 would be walking nude down the street in Soho. Tennant, in stereotypically David Tennant fashion, endeared himself to the crowd by thanking fans for they way they’ve embraced his portrayal of Crowley. “It’s been an honor to have not broken fans’ dreams, but to have enhanced them,” said Tennant contritely.
What’s in store for Season 2
Good Omens Season 2 promises “love stories,” trips to Middle Age Scotland, and a lot more of Heaven and Hell, Gaiman promised the crowd. Writer Douglas Mackinnon let slip that the season will again be six episodes of approximately forty-five minutes or so each. It arrives on Amazon Prime Video Summer of 2023.
