Spy x Family is clearly looking to hype up the impending debut of the second cour of the anime adaptation. Why else would they show off the opening theme right before the main event? Don’t believe me? Then check out that opening for yourself below, and revel in how pretty it looks:
A Souvenir For Us?
TOHO animation just posted this credit-less opening for Spy x Family cour 2 above on their official YouTube channel. Right from the start, you’ll immediately hear the calm, soothing tones of the opening theme music: “Souvenir” by BUMP OF CHICKEN. This Japanese alternative rock band is otherwise popularly known for singing the main theme song for the JRPG video game Tales of the Abyss “Karma”, as well as singing the first opening and first ending theme songs for March Comes In like a Lion “Answer” and “Fighter” respectively. I get the feeling that after “Souvenir” debuts with the newest cour of the Spy x Family anime, the band will become a lot more well-known.
As for the opening animation itself, it appears to show the entire Forger family out on an autumn vacation. Right after Anya had taken a difficult test at Eden Academy, no less, this explains why they’re on an “ooting” in the first place. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice a white and black-socked capybara-dog walking along with the Forgers. This will be a treat for fans of the manga, considering that this tour marks the first appearance of Bond the precognitive family dog. It seems this cour seeks to complete the Forger family at long last.
Fortunately, we won’t have long to wait. Spy x Family cour 2 will make its debut on October 1, 2022. Unfortunately, this cour, just like the last one, will be a Crunchyroll exclusive. Thus, you will have to pay your way past Crunchyroll’s shiny new paywall to watch this cour. However, for this anime, it might be worth it. At the very least, you’ll only have to pay $7.99 a month. Honestly, that’s a bit cheaper than other streaming services considering the recent mass price hike.
Spy x Family Cour 2: Details
Spy x Family cour 2 is the second cour (split season) of the anime, which itself is the anime adaptation of the action comedy spy manga series of the same name by Tatsuya Endo. Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Ranking of Kings) and CloverWorks (The Promised Neverland, Wonder Egg Priority, My Dress-Up Darling) are the animation studios behind this anime. Kazuhiro Furuhashi is the director, and writes the screenplay as well. Makoto Miyazaki and Shūhei Mutsuki of [K]NoW_NAME composed the music for the anime. Lastly, Crunchyroll licensed this anime for its NA release.
As for what Spy x Family, in general, is about? Well, Crunchyroll has an official synopsis for us on the anime’s page. Check it out below:
“World peace is at stake and secret agent Twilight must undergo his most difficult mission yet—pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he’ll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife’s a deadly assassin and neither knows each other’s identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who’s a telepath!”
You can catch up on the first cour of Spy x Family on Crunchyroll or Hulu.
