Well, it looks like we here in the US are finally going to be able to see EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME in theaters. I would say it’s about time too, considering that this anime film came out in Japan back on March 8, 2021. Fortunately, GKIDS has us covered here. They even have a snazzy new trailer for us for the occasion. Check it out below:

The Final Rebuild of Evangelion At Long Last!

Such a peaceful and relaxing song for such a bloody and violent anime film.

GKIDS is proud to announce that they’re finally bringing EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME to US theaters with that YouTube trailer above and on the anime film‘s official website at GKIDS. In fact, this will be the first time this 4th and final installation in the Rebuild of Evangelion anime film reboot tetralogy will show in the US. So you can finally officially watch it in English rather than go “Yo ho ho!” with unofficial translations.

According to GKIDS, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME will make its theatrical debut starting on December 6, 2022. This release will apparently be part of a limited theatrical event, with the anime film only showing on that date, plus December 8 and December 11 of the same year. So if you don’t want to wait for the home media release, then you might want to catch this theatrical release. Tickets will go on sale starting on November 2, 2022. You can purchase these tickets at participating theater box offices. If you don’t wish to walk through, then you can also purchase these tickets on Fathom Events via that GKIDS link above.

"EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME" poster.
Seems like a normal scene, until you remember what the ocean in Evangelion looked like.

EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME is the 4th and final anime film of the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, which is itself the anime film reboot series of the original 1995 science fantasy apocalyptic mecha psychological drama anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno, Masayuki, and Kazuya Tsurumaki. Studio Khara (Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Shin Godzilla, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown) is the animation studio behind this particular anime film, as they were for all the previous films. Anno and Tsurumaki return to direct this 4th anime film, with Mahiro Maeda and Katsuichi Nakayama added into the mix. Anno also wrote for this anime film. Shirō Sagisu returns to compose the music once more. Lastly, GKIDS has licensed this particular anime film for NA theatrical and home media release.

“From legendary director Hideaki Anno, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME is the fourth and final installment of the REBUILD OF EVANGELION films, bringing an epic conclusion to the story of Shinji and his fellow Eva pilots, with the stunning visuals and thought-provoking storytelling that has made EVANGELION a global pop culture phenomenon.

Misato and her anti-NERV group Wille arrive at Paris, a city now red from core-ization. Crew from the flagship Wunder land on a containment tower. They only have 720 seconds to restore the city. When a horde of NERV Evas appear, Mari’s improved Eva Unit 8 must intercept. Meanwhile, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei (Provisional Name) wander about Japan.”
