It’s gonna take a hell of a screenwriter to get the story straight for this one, but Sony and PlayStation have added David Harbour to their Gran Turismo film. The Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions project is being written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. Neil Blomkamp is directing the film. The adaptation is based on the true story of a teenage Gran Turismo player who became an actual professional race car driver. Harbour will play a retired driver who teaches the teen to drive. Asad Qizilbash, a producer on the project, had this to say:
“As one of PlayStation’s longest-standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exciting way. We can’t wait for audiences to see Neill’s vision of this inspiring true story of gamer turned professional race car driver.”
Gran Turismo has a tentative release date of August 11th, 2023. The film starts production next week. Gran Turismo got its start back in 1997 on the PlayStation and the series continues to push the envelope for what’s possible with cars in video games.
David Harbour has had a busy weekend and early week, he was at D23, where it was revealed that he’d be reprising his role of Red Guardian in the upcoming Marvel Studios film Thunderbolts. He also has the film Violent Night coming out this Holiday season.
