We’ll have to see how many Emmy Awards that Squid Game wins, but the star of the show, Lee Jung-jae has found his first major role since that worldwide phenomenon, The Acolyte. The upcoming Star Wars series from Leslye Headland has picked him as the male star of the show. Amandla Steinberg is set to be the female lead of the show set much before the Skywalker Saga that we know and love. Jodie Turner-Smith is also set to star in the show in a supporting role. Headland will write, direct, executive produce, and be the showrunner on The Acolyte.
Details about Jung-jae’s character or any of the other characters are a mystery at the moment, but we might learn a bit more about the series at the upcoming D23 Expo this weekend.
The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that brings us to the final days of the High Republic era. The project was announced alongside other Star Wars projects in December 2020. This is a major get for Disney and LucasFilm as Lee was highly desirable following his star-making turn on Squid Game.
We’ll have to see what comes out this weekend at D23 and if Lee Jung-jae wins any of the Emmys he’s up for.
