Well, it seems as though PlayStation Studios is buying up yet another developer, and this time it’s Savage Game Studios. Who are they, you might ask? Well, read on:
PlayStation Studios Gets a Little Bit Bigger
PlayStation Blog has just announced that PlayStation Studios has just acquired yet another developer in the form of Savage Game Studios. The blog doesn’t disclose exactly how much PlayStation Studios paid for this developer. Only that they did so.
“Established in 2020 and led by myself and fellow Co-founders Nadjim Adjir and Michael McManus, Savage Game Studios was born of our many years of mobile game development experience spanning a number of massively successful global IP. Our guiding vision was a creative space where experimentation and taking risks weren’t warily avoided, but rather eagerly embraced. We’ve all worked at big studios and while we respect the advantages of ample resources, we wanted to stay small and nimble so we could call our own shots.
“So why then,” you may be thinking to yourself, “would you join PlayStation Studios?” We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be “why not?”
On behalf of everybody at Savage Game Studios, thank you for having us. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!”
Michail Katkoff, CEO and Co-founder of Savage Game Studios
To celebrate this occasion, this new developer is announcing a “new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game“. Unfortunately, they have nothing else beyond that vague description. Tune back in to THS later to find out more about this mystery game when we do.
Savage Game Studios: Details
Despite this news though, Savage Game Studios remains a bit of a mystery. PlayStation Blog mentions that they developed Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and are developing the upcoming Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. However, there’s no mention of any other games they developed. In fact, even their official website reveals nothing about anything they developed or are developing. It’s truly bizarre for a game developer to have this little information available to the public.
All we know about their current game development is from the PlayStation Blog. Said blog mentions that Savage Game Studios is joining a “newly created” PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, hence their just-announced mystery mobile game. This new division is apparently independent from their console developers and will “focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP”. I guess we’ll just have to see what this new division and developer cooks up for us in the future.
