From one generational love story to another. Starz revealed today it will expand the world of its popular romantic historical drama series Outlander. The network now has a prequel series in development, Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Blood of My Blood will follow the love story of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents. Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts will make the jump to the prequel; Roberts is set to serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on Blood of My Blood. Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore, who developed Outlander for TV, will also executive produce the prequel.
“‘Outlander’ is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz. “We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began. Matthew, Maril and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.”
Diana Gabaldon, who wrote the Outlander book series, is also attached to the prequel as a consulting producer.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will air on Starz and its streaming platform in the US and Canada. It will also drop on STARZPLAY in Europe, Latin America, and Brazil.
