Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night just unveiled a new trailer to hype up this anime film and the latest installment in the Sword Art Online franchise. Don’t believe me? Then check out the trailer for yourself below:
Asuna’s Latest Adventure (Hopefully)?
Aniplex just posted this latest trailer for Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night on their official YouTube channel. As you might’ve noticed, the trailer is a bit on the short side at only 36 seconds long. It’s even shorter when you take into account the brief second the Aniplex logo shows up at the beginning. This trailer is practically a PV, really.
Anyways, that Scherzo of Deep Night trailer shows a surprising lack of Asuna Yuuki. You know, in spite of the fact that this anime film is supposedly starring her? She appears in the trailer for only a couple of seconds, with Kirito getting an equal amount of screen time. Maybe even a bit more than her. This is truly bizarre because, again, this is supposed to be Asuna’s time in the limelight. I get that Kirito and she are a canonical couple, but it shouldn’t mean that Kirito eclipses her role in her own anime film.
Maybe I’m just overthinking things based solely on this very short trailer though. Hopefully, Asuna gets a lot more screen time than what this trailer suggests when we see the actual anime film. Which, according to the trailer, isn’t too far off. Apparently, Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night will premiere in Japanese theaters on September 10, 2022. I stress though that this is only for Japan. There’s no word on a NA release yet. We’ll just have to wait for one of the anime distributor companies to pick up that anime film at a later date. In the meantime, you can enjoy further details and the new key art from Twitter below.
Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night ~ Details
Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night is the second anime film adaptation of Sword Art Online Progressive, which is a spinoff series to Sword Art Online by Reki Kawahara starring Asuna Yuuki. This particular anime film is actually an adaption of the 4th volume of the original Sword Art Online Progressive light novel and serves as a sequel to Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night.
Unfortunately, there’s zero information available about the production of Sword Art Online Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night. There’s not even an official synopsis in English for it yet. The closest we have is a Google Translate version of the synopsis in the video description of that YouTube trailer from AniPlex. Check it out below:
