The Godkiller universe just got more immersive. Today, Black Mask Studios announced plans to adapt the comic series into a video game.
Voicing the lead character Bones will be none other than Aya Cash. She will play the anti-hero sorcerer who survives her world’s descent into dystopia and leads a vendetta against the cruel men and strange deities responsible for the end of the world. Cash is no stranger to superpowered roles; after all, she took up the mantle of Stormfront in Prime Video’s The Boys.
The Godkiller video game project leads a new gaming initiative at Black Mask Entertainment. The busy production arm currently has more than two dozen features and series in development at studios and networks.
The original Godkiller comics come from writer Matteo Pizzolo (Calexit) and artist Anna Wieszczyk (Home). The duo originally self-published the series, promoting it at Comic-Cons starting in 2008. Since then, the series went from cult following to massive hit. Warner Bros. distributed an animated feature adaptation back in 2011.
A decade later, Godkiller began a comics run at Black Mask Studios. The 2021 release of Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes sold out a 40,000 book print run on release day. The series proved one of the top-selling indie comics of the year, and the Black Mask’s all-time bestselling series.
The video game adaptation will be produced by Emmy winner Brian Giberson (Power On: The Story Of Xbox).
The next installment in the franchise, Godkiller: For Those I Love I Will Sacrifice, will arrive in September.
