Fans of the Inheritance Cycle can finally rejoice, Disney+ has an adaptation of Eragon on the way. After brutal memories of the 2006 film, fans have clamored for a better adaptation of the young adult novels. Now, according to Variety, a series is in early development. The author of the novels, Christopher Paolini is on board as co-writer on the series from 20th Century Studios and Disney.
The first novel tells the story of Eragon, who finds a dragon egg that hatches into his dragon, Saphira. He meets his mentor, Brom, Eragon slowly learns to become a Dragon Rider, who were thought to be wiped out by the evil king Galbatorix. The first novel came out in 2002 and was followed by three other novels, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance. The series has sold over 41 million copies worldwide.
The 2006 movie starred Ed Speleers, Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Irons, and John Malkovich. it was not well received at the time, but did make $250 million at the box office. That wasn’t good enough to keep the series going forward though.
