Hugh Jackman is getting animated. The actor will lead the voice cast of the upcoming Hulu series, Koala Man.
Koala Man revolves around a middle-aged dad Kevin and his titular not-so-secret identity. Kevin’s only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dapto. Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil both cosmic and man-made lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his hometown, and often roping his frustrated family into his adventures, Koala Man stands at the ready. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.
Jackman will voice “Big Greg,” the most well-liked man in Dapto. As head of the town council, he’s only known success. Big Greg is also Kevin’s direct supervisor, and makes him feel inadequate as a provider and a man. To add insult to injury, Daptonians constantly credit Big Greg for Koala Man’s work saving the town.
The series comes from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Michael Cusack. Cusack teamed with Rick and Morty to write and direct the 2018 April Fool’s special Bushworld Adventures. Koala Man will be produced by 20th Television Animation, the studio behind other Hulu animated originals like Solar Opposites, Hit-Monkey, and the upcoming Futurama series.
Jackman’s film credits include playing Wolverine in the X-Men franchise and leading hit musical The Greatest Showman. His previous voice acting credits include Flushed Away and Happy Feet.
Koala Man will have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, so stay tuned for more updates on the series.
