The Television Academy announced this year’s Emmy nominees today. The 2022 list includes several firsts and record-breaking nominations. Check out the highlights from the nomination list below.
Record-Breaking Emmy Nominations in 2022
Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary
Brunson received three Emmy nominations for Abbott Elementary (Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and Writing for a Comedy Series). She is the youngest Black woman ever nominated in the comedy acting category, and the first Black woman to receive three nominations in the comedy category in the same year.
Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building
Though left out of the acting category, Selena Gomez still made Emmys history with her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. The show landed an Outstanding Comedy Series nomination, making Gomez the second Latina to land a producing nomination. (The first was Salma Hayek for Ugly Betty back in 2007.)
Zendaya for Euphoria
Zendaya landed four Emmy nominations. She is the youngest woman ever nominated for producing, and the first Black woman to receive acting and songwriting nominations in the same year.
Netflix’s Squid Game
Netflix’s Korean drama Squid Game scored a total of 14 Emmy nominations. Among those? A nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. It’s the first non-English language show to receive a series nomination in Emmys history.
HBO’s Succession
HBO’s Succession tallied up a staggering 25 nominations, making it the most nominated series of the year. And with 14 of those in acting categories, that breaks the record for the most acting Emmy nominations for a drama series in a single year. (The previous record of 12 was held by The West Wing.) It also breaks the overall record for acting nominations in a series in a single year (previously held by miniseries Roots with 13 nominations.)
