It looks like Studio Trigger is making up for all of the virtual Anime Expos. How else do you explain what they’re doing at Anime Expo 2022? Especially with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and everything else?

Now that’s quite the incentive to pay that ridiculous ticket price.

On their official Twitter account, Studio Trigger recently announced that they are marking their return to Anime Expo with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners with an exclusive panel. As you can see above, this panel is not just going to feature a short trailer. It seems that they’re planning to actually debut the entire first episode at Anime Expo 2022 as part of a world premiere. This panel is going to be on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 4:30 PM (PT). If you’re attending Anime Expo 2022 (or if you’re just a Cyberpunk 2077 fan), then you don’t want to miss it at that time. You can also catch the anime on Netflix sometime in September 2022.

How many cyborg eyes do you need? Answer: all of them.

That’s not the only thing Studio Trigger has for Anime Expo 2022 though. Apparently, they have some kind of a “POTENT” announcement planned for the panel as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations. Unfortunately, they’re being pretty cagey about what it is they’re announcing. It seems that they want to keep it a surprise until they actually announce it. Thus, we’re just going to have to wait and see at Anime Expo 2022 to find out what this announcement is. However, that doesn’t stop us from speculating on what this might be.

Studio Trigger Announcement: Speculation

Man, they’re really making the guessing game, aren’t they?

There’s definitely a big part of me that hopes that this announcement is about Little Witch Academia. Studio Trigger have been hinting at a potential second season (season 3 for English viewers on Netflix) or even a spinoff to the anime for quite some time now. According to an article by Inquisitr, the director of the anime would want to use that second season to build up some of the other characters. Specifically: he wants to build up the histories of Diana Cavendish and Amanda O’Neill with this hypothetical second season. In addition, the director apparently also wants to do a spinoff anime focusing on Shiny Chariot herself, which would effectively give us a prequel to the anime proper. Either or both of these would be a great way to continue the anime.

I would definitely love to see the logistics and magical training behind Shiny Chariot’s performances.

Unfortunately, as you can tell, none of these plans came to fruition for various reasons. That’s why this “POTENT” announcement at Anime Expo 2022 is so exciting. It’s entirely possible that Studio Trigger might announce the start of a new Little Witch Academia anime, potentially on Netflix as well. It will still take a while for us to see it, but at least we will know that it’s coming. Ultimately though, this is just wishful thinking with no evidence to back it up other than Akko appearing in Studio Trigger’s promo art for Anime Expo 2022. Take it with as many grains of salt as you like.
