Game of Thrones ended with a fizzle three years ago, but that hasn’t stopped HBO from prepping more shows to expand the universe. After several scrapped plans and pilot false starts, House of the Dragon will premiere this summer. But now plans for a new GOT series have arrived – and fans of the original series will want to pay attention, since this one brings back one of their favorite characters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is currently working on a live-action spinoff series following Jon Snow (aka Aegon Targaryen). Kit Harington, who originally played the character on Game of Thrones, is attached to reprise his role should HBO give the series the official green light.
Harington played Snow for all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, trekking across Westeros and leading a number of battles along the way. In the show’s series finale, he winds up exiled from Westeros, journeying beyond the Wall with the Wildlings to begin a new life.
The potential Jon Snow series marks a new direction for HBO and George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. While quite a few different in-universe shows have been discussed, this would mark the first to focus on one of the original series’ main characters. (The upcoming House of the Dragon is essentially a prequel series, set hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones.)
Besides giving fans Harington’s return, a Jon Snow series would also seemingly open the doors to seeing other GOT characters return; for instance, his fellow Stark siblings Arya (Maisie Williams), Sansa (Sophie Turner), and Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright).
Since wrapping Thrones, Harington jumped into another major franchise, appearing in Marvel’s Eternals. He also recently took on the title role in the National Theatre’s production of Henry V.
