Of all the potential actors who could appear in the 60th anniversary special of Doctor Who… Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t on my list.
And yet, here we are.
The BBC confirmed the American stage and screen star will officially appear in the anniversary special. Harris is reportedly currently filming scenes for the special, set to air in 2023.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, details about Harris’ specific role are being kept under wraps.
Showrunner Russel T. Davies teased, “It’s my huge honor to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!”
“Doctor beware” seems to imply Harris’ character will serve as some sort of adversary or antagonist. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see. The announcement did include a photo of Harris in character, which you can see below.
Also confirmed to return for the 60th anniversary special are Doctor Who alums David Tennant and Catherine Tate. No doubt the anniversary event has plenty more returning Who stars and special cameos planned we have yet to learn about too.
Harris’ decades-long career includes a long-running lead role in sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He recently appeared in the newest Matrix film, Resurrections.
So, what do you think about Harris heading to Doctor Who? Who else do you want to see turn up in the anniversary special? Let us know in the comments below.
