Netflix previously announced plans to film a sequel to hit feature The Old Guard. Now, we know two big names will join the cast: Uma Thurman and Henry Golding.
Thurman and Golding join returning cast members from the first film, including Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Matthias Schoenaerts. At this time, we don’t have any details about the characters Thurman and Golding will play in the sequel.
The Old Guard adapted the graphic novels created by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. The story follows a covert team of immortal mercenaries that were suddenly exposed. They discover an unexpected new member just as they must fight to keep their identity a secret. The feature adaptation scored huge numbers for Netflix, with over 180 million hours viewed within the first month of its release.
Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the first feature, but the sequel will see Victoria Mahoney take the reins. Rucka, who wrote the script, will also serve as an executive producer.
Thurman is an Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner, known for her roles in iconic features like Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. She will next appear in Prime Video’s YA rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue, as well as the darkly comedic thriller The Kill Room, which she also produces.
Golding’s breakout role came in the rom-com Crazy Rich Asians. He has another Netflix feature arriving soon, Carrie Cracknell’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. He will also appear in Assassin’s Club with Sam Neill and Noomi Rapace, and lend his voice to Paramount’s animated feature The Tiger’s Apprentice.
