It’s time for Marvel’s version of The Suicide Squad. Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios has tapped Jake Schreier as director for the new “villain” team-up movie, Thunderbolts. Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is writing the script and Kevin Feige is producing. As for the plot, not much is known at the moment, including who’ll be on the team. Outside of the basic structure of former villains or villains teaming up for a mission from the government. They go on to say that Marvel has been in touch with several actors who are already part of the MCU to keep their schedules open for next summer.
They listed Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, The Abomination, US Agent, and Winter Soldier as characters that could be on the team. General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross is also a possibility since he’s the one that forms the team in the comics. Another wrinkle they mention is about Fantastic Four. The focus from the studio has been Thunderbolts rather than that film. Schreier started off in music videos and then moved to TV and film. He’s directed episodes of Dave and the A24 and Netflix series Beef.
We’ll keep you updated on Thunderbolts as it develops.
