Who ya gonna call? Netflix, apparently. The streamer is reportedly developing an animated Ghostbusters series.
Netflix revealed plans for the series during Geeked Week. The streamer announced the project will come from Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan. The team behind the recent Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie will once again expand the universe with an animated series.
At this time, plot details for the Netflix series have not been revealed. So, we don’t know if this animated show will focus on the original team of Ghostbusters from the 1984 film, the new generation introduced in Afterlife, or even an entirely new group of ghost hunters.
The original Ghostbusters film followed a group of eccentric parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in NYC. The film became a pop culture phenomenon, and eventually became the highest-grossing comedy film ever.
The film’s popularity later inspired several sequels. The most recent, 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, follows a single mother and her children who move to an Oklahoma farm they inherited from her estranged father Egon Spengler, a member of the original Ghostbusters.
One of the franchise’s many iterations was the animated spinoff/sequel series The Real Ghostbusters, which ran for seven seasons on ABC.
So, will you watch Ghostbusters get animated again? Did Afterlife rekindle your desire to catch some ghosts? Let us know in the comments below what you hope the Netflix series looks like.
