Zack Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon just landed another iconic star. None other than Sir Anthony Hopkins himself has boarded the film.
The two-time Oscar winner will voice Jimmy, an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.
Rebel Moon follows a young woman (Sofia Boutella) with a mysterious past sent to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help save her peaceful community from a tyrannical army. It marks the first film to debut under Snyder’s new first-look partnership with streamer Netflix.
Hopkins joins previously announced cast members including Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.
Snyder wrote the script for Rebel Moon, and will also direct the feature.
Hopkins recently earned his second Academy Award for emotional drama The Father. He’s known for a number of iconic genre roles, including Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs and Dr. Robert Ford on HBO’s Westworld. Hopkins will next appear in James Gray’s drama Armageddon Time, which recently debuted at Cannes to critical praise.
Snyder recently recorded a message for fans during Netflix’s Geeked Week, telling them to expect more news about Rebel Moon soon. He later dropped a first look at one of the Rebel Moon aliens on social media.
