The Marvel train keeps rolling over at Disney+. As recent addition Moon Knight wraps and attention shifts to Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, Marvel president Kevin Feige offered a brief look back at a previous series.
During the Disney upfronts, Feige premiered the official trailer for Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk. However, before that he confirmed Loki set the record for most-watched Marvel series on Disney+.
Feige didn’t provide any hard numbers to back up Loki’s popularity. But his statement does reinforce third-party data collected by Samba TV. (SambaTV recorded over 890,000 households viewing Loki the day it premiered.)
According to Deadline, Feige said that Loki’s success was due to a “bold swing” and that he believes a “wild ride paid off.” These specific statements made ahead of Marvel dropping a first look at She-Hulk: Attorney at Law seems to imply the studio feels She-Hulk could also be a bold choice with a big payoff.
Update on Loki Season 2
In addition to discussing Loki’s success, Feige revealed the series would begin filming season 2 in a few weeks. Unlike Marvel’s other earliest TV projects for Disney+, WandaVision and Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki was not designed as a limited series. The show actually revealed it would return for a second season immediately as the first ended, in a post-credits scene in the season finale.
Season 2 of Loki will see Eric Martin take over as head writer. Martin penned the recently released MCU feature Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The new season will also see Marvel alums Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead direct, hopping over from their work on Moon Knight.
Loki picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. Imprisoned by the Time Variance Authority, Loki must either face being erased from existence or help the TVA fix the timeline and stop a greater threat.
You can stream season 1 of Loki now on Disney+.
