Firestarter is getting a remake, yes. Before you grab your pitchforks, this one seems like one of the good ones. It’s got an excellent cast highlighted by Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Gloria Reuben, and Michael Greyeyes. Keith Thomas directs the story of a young girl who tries to understand how she mysteriously gained the power to set things on fire with her mind. Finally, it features a brand new soundtrack from the master of horror himself, John Carpenter. The film releases theatrically and on Peacock on the same day, May 13th, 2022. Yep, it releases on Friday the 13th. Here’s some special trivia about the cast and crew that they’ve drummed up:
- This film is based on Stephen King’s novel Firestarter, a horror story about a child with supernatural abilities.
- Ryan Kiera Armstorng stars as Charlie McGee in Firestarter. At twelve-years-old, she has already starred in major films such as Black Widow (2021), The Tomorrow War (2021) and The Art of Racing (2019).
- Gloria Reuben who plays Captain Hollister in the film has two Emmy nominations for her role as HIV+ physician assistant Jeanie Boulet on the hit NBC series “ER.” In addition to ER she’s also had roles in films like Lincoln and TV Shows like “Mr. Robot” and “Blue Bloods.”
- Actor Michael Greyeyes who portrays John Rainbird in Firestarter, is a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School. He went on to apprentice with The National Ballet of Canada before joining the company as a full Corps de Ballet member in 1987. When he isn’t acting he can be found in the role of Associate Professor of Theater at York University in Toronto, Ontario.
- Zac Efron plays patriarch Andy McGee in Firestarter and loves acting, but did you know that his most prized possession is his autographed baseball collection? In addition to collecting sports memorabilia, he was once offered him a record deal by none other than Simon Cowell.
