The MCU is getting supernatural. Today we’ve got new details about the upcoming Werewolf By Night special headed to Disney+.

Back in January, Deadline reported The Nevers star Laura Donnelly would appear in Werewolf By Night. However, the original report didn’t confirm who Donnelly would play. Today though our friends at The Cosmic Circus have confirmed Donnelly will play Elsa Bloodstone.

In Marvel Comics, Elsa Bloodstone is the daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone, an immortal monster hunter. Trained from a young age to take down the supernatural, Elsa also inherited some unique powers from her father, including an immunity to vampire bites. She’s said to have superhuman strength, agility, and regenerative abilities. (All useful when fighting monsters, naturally.)

Donnelly joins Gael Garcia Bernal, who will play the title role in Werewolf By Night. As Marvel is keeping details about the project under wraps, we don’t have many more details about this Disney+ project yet. In fact, fans don’t even know which version of Werewolf By Night Bernal will play.

Regardless, the project has already begun filming, and is expected to drop on Disney+ around Halloween this year. So, fans won’t have too long to wait to catch Marvel in all its supernatural glory.

The Supernatural Future of the MCU

So, what does Elsa Bloodstone’s inclusion in Werewolf By Night mean for the greater MCU? Well, it’s another indication Marvel fans have more supernatural content coming their way.

Between the multiverse, Moon Knight, the upcoming Blade project, and Werewolf By Night, it looks like Marvel is leaning in to its supernatural side. We previously reported a Midnight Sons project was in development. It wouldn’t be difficult to tie Elsa Bloodstone’s monster hunting into a Midnight Sons story.

The character was also part of the Legion of Monsters team along with Werewolf By Night in the 2000s – another potential connection/project that could tie Donnelly to the greater MCU.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Marvel has in store for us with Werewolf By Night.
