If you’ve driven past a strip mall in the month of October, you’ve seen it. The orange-yellow-black logo. The skeleton grim reaper on a temporary banner. The universal sign that Spirit Halloween has once again come to town.
But you’re about to experience Spirit Halloween as you never have before. The iconic costume and prop shop will officially get its own feature film.
Aptly titled Spirit Halloween, the family-friendly spooky feature will star Christopher Lloyd and Rachael Leigh Cook. Here’s the official description of the movie:
When a new Spirit Halloween store appears in a deserted strip mall, three middle-school friends who think they’ve outgrown trick-or-treating make a dare to spend the night locked inside the store Halloween night. But they soon find out that the store is haunted by an angry evil spirit who has possessed the creepy animatronic characters. The kids embark on a thrilling and spooky adventure in order to survive the night and avoid becoming possessed themselves.
The film comes from Strike Back Studios, Hideout Pictures, and Particular Crowd. In addition to Lloyd and Cook, the film stars Donavan Colan, Dylan Frankel, Jaiden Smith, Marissa Reyes, and Marla Gibbs.
“One of the reasons I immediately connected with the script is it is very much inspired by some of my favorite kid adventure films growing up from ‘The Goonies,’ ‘Gremlins,’ ‘Monster Squad’ and so many great films made by Amblin Entertainment,” said Noor Ahmed, president of Strike Back Studios.
Filming on Spirit Halloween has already wrapped. As you might guess, this means the film is on track for an October 2022 release.
The film comes from writer Billie Bates, with David Poad making his feature directorial debut.
