Bring on the music, mayhem, and most importantly… the Muppets! Tahj Mowry has joined the cast of the next Muppets special on Disney+.
Mowry will join previously announced star Lilly Singh in the live-action special following The Electric Mayhem Band. (If you need a refresher, that’s Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone, and Lips on trumpet.)
According to Variety, Mowry will play Gary “Moog” Moogowski. Described as a lovably awkward die-hard superfan of the band, he loyally follows them from gig to gig. Moog is an avid audiophile who knows his way around a mixing board. Since he is a walking encyclopedia of the band, he’s often able to offer advice or guidance to Nora (Singh) when she’s having trouble wrangling, communicating with or even understanding them. As Moog continues to work closely with Nora, he begins to hope that maybe she’ll see him less as a goofy sidekick and more as a leading man.
In Muppets Mayhem, The Electric Mayhem goes on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.
Mowry is best known for his leading role in the WB series Smart Guy. He recently starred in the Freeform series Baby Daddy, and previously appeared with his real-life siblings in the hit series Sister, Sister.
The Muppets Mayhem does not yet have a release date. However, fans can get their Muppets fix on Disney+ now with hits like Muppets Now and Muppets Haunted Mansion.
