Welcome aboard, Shanks! Netflix just added Peter Gadiot to its upcoming One Piece series.
The show will be a live-action adaptation of the popular manga, which has published over 100 volumes to date. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
Gadiot will play Shanks, captain of the Red Hair Pirates, who inspires Luffy to go on his pirate journey. You can see Gadiot discuss his casting in the clip below.
Writers Matt Owens and Steven Maeda serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on the series. One Piece author Eiichiro Oda also serves as an executive producer.
Gadiot joins previously announced cast members, including Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D Luffy, Mackenyu as Rorona Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, and Vincent Regan as Garp.
Gadiot’s previous credits include Yellow Jackets and Queen of the South.
Over 100 episodes of the One Piece anime are currently available to stream on Netflix. Production on the live-action series has begun, but a release date has not yet been announced.
