Get ready for some swashbuckling sci-fi action this spring. Doctor Who officially returns with a new special in April!

“Legend of the Sea Devils” will see the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) travel with her companions Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) to 19th century China. They find a small coastal village under threat from the pirate queen Madame Ching (Crystal Yu) and the monstrous alien force she unknowingly unleashed. The Doctor and her companions will have to contend with the Sea Devils to save the planet.

In addition to the return of Whittaker’s Doctor and companions Yaz and Dan, the spring special marks the return of a special foe. The Sea Devils first appeared in Doctor Who’s original TV run, going up against John Pertwee’s Third Doctor.

Recently, BBC revealed first-look photos of the special. The network also announced the official premiere date: April 17.

The spring special will be one of Whittaker’s last appearances as the Time Lord. Her final season in the role has already aired, but she is set to appear in three specials before fans meet the next Doctor. “Legend of the Sea Devils” marks the second of those three specials.
