It’s a sad day for horror series fans. Netflix has once again canceled a fan-favorite show after just 1 season. Archive 81 is a supernatural thriller about archivist Dan Tuner (Mamoudou Athie) who makes a horrifying discovery while restoring a collection of videotapes from 1994. The series told two stories at once. One, the archivist, as well as the documentary filmmaker, Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi), that the tapes originally belong to.

ARCHIVE 81 CANCELED, BUT HAS THE STREAMING NUMBERS

Along with Athie and Shihabi, the series stars Evan Jonigkeit, Julia Chan, Ariana Neal, Matt McGorry, and Martin Donovan. The canceled series premiered on Netflix on January 14th, 2022, and delivered some pretty great numbers in its first few weeks on the streaming service.

According to Netflix’s own numbers, in the first week, Netflix subscribers watched over 22 million hours of Archive 81. That number jumped significantly to almost 71 million in the second week. So, you can understand why fans of the series may be shocked to find out the show made it to the chopping block.
