From Ghostbusting to time traveling – Ernie Hudson has joined NBC’s Quantum Leap reboot!
Hudson will play Herbert “Magic” Williams, a Vietnam vet and current head of the time travel project at Quantum Leap. Using his no-nonsense personality and aura of control, he works to keep the Pentagon at bay while his team tries to rescue the time-traveling Dr. Ben Seong.
The upcoming Quantum Leap series takes place 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.
Though the characters in the new series are nearly all new, Magic Williams was actually a part of the original ‘90s series. In a season 3 episode, Sam leaps into Magic, a member of his brother’s Navy Seal platoon in Vietnam. In his original appearance, Magic was played by Christopher Kirby.
Hudson joins previously announced lead Raymond Lee for the series.
The new Quantum Leap comes from writers/executive producers Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt. Original series creator Don Bellisario and EP/narrator Deborah Pratt also executive produce the show.
Hudson recently reprised his iconic character Winston Zeddemore in the feature film Ghostbusters: Afterlife. He executive produces and stars in the BET series The Family Business, and will next appear in Showtime’s City on a Hill.
