Normally, we would want to take our minds off of the real world. The real world can be a cruel place, and we here at That Hashtag Show want to entertain you, not remind you of that. However, it seems that Disney is mixing entertainment and real-life here, at least for Russia. Especially given what’s happening in Ukraine right now, and what Russia is doing there with their invasion.
No Disney For Russia Until They Pull Out Of Ukraine
The Walt Disney Company has just released an official statement regarding Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The statement doesn’t have a specific person to cite, but is listed as being “attributed to a spokesperson for The Walt Disney Company”. The statement itself reads:
“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming Turning Red from Pixar. We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation. In the meantime, given the scale of the emerging refugee crisis, we are working with our NGO partners to provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees.”
This is a pretty huge statement on Disney‘s part. It effectively means that they’re sacrificing their profits in Russia in order to join the growing list of economic sanctions from Western nations against Russia in order to put an end to Putin’s plans to conquer Ukraine. While The Walt Disney Company doesn’t give any specifics as to what aid they’re going to provide to Ukraine, that’s probably information that will come later. Hopefully, it ends up helping the situation out for the Ukrainian refugees streaming out of the country right now. Tune in later for more news about this as this story develops.
