If you haven’t heard, DVD-mailing-service-turned-streaming-giant Netflix is making a comedy series about Blockbuster Video.

The show is a single-cam workplace comedy set in the last remaining Blockbuster video store. And now, we know more about who will lead the Blockbuster show. Netflix previously announced Randall Park (Fresh off the Boat) would star in the series. Today, we learned Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero will join him as a co-lead.

Fumero will play Eliza, a dedicated mother whose marriage to her high school sweetheart is on the rocks. She left Harvard after one semester to start a family and now works at Blockbuster alongside Timmy (Randall Park) as his trusty number two… and maybe more.

The series comes from creator Vanessa Ramos, who previously worked with Fumero on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Ramos also wrote for another hit NBC comedy, Superstore. David Caspe (Happy Endings, Black Monday) and Jackie Clarke (Superstore, Happy Endings) also serve as writers/executive producers.

Blockbuster is an ensemble comedy that explores what it takes – and more specifically who it takes – for a small business to succeed against all odds. The series plans to announce additional stars soon.

Fumero starred as Detective Amy Santiago in NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine for eight seasons. She can also be heard voicing the character of Melissa in Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K series on Hulu. She will next appear in independent comedy Bar Fight opposite Rachel Bloom.

The 10-episode Blockbuster series does not yet have a release date. So, check back to THS for more updates.
