Despite its 2016 release, it seems like Moana is still clipping along at flank speed. So much so that “How Far I’ll Go” actually just managed to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. Don’t believe me? Then see and listen for yourself below:
“How Far I’ll Go”: Going Pretty Far
Billboard recently announced that Moana’s theme song (performed by Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana herself, no less) “How Far I’ll Go” has reached a milestone of 1 billion views on YouTube. To be specific, as of this writing, said video has reached a grand total of 1,002,282,712 views, with 3.3 million likes as icing on this musically Polynesian cake. It’s not all that surprising, considering that Billboard mentions that the video averages over 350,000 views a day. With that many views per day, it’s no wonder that it reached 1 billion views. The only surprise here is that it took just over 5 years to do so. Especially when a song from the same movie (“You’re Welcome” by Dwayne Johnson voicing Maui) reached 1 billion views beforehand.
Moana: Details
If you somehow have absolutely no idea what Moana is, here’s the low-down: there’s a curse on the sea and the islands. All brought about by a god who stole the ocean’s heart. It was all for a good cause, of course, but now it’s creating a blight that’s killing crops and fish. Now, it’s up to the chief’s daughter, Moana, to save her world by returning the ocean’s heart to her. Oh, and she has to convince the god who stole it in the first place to help her do it to boot. As icing on the pavlova cake, in classic Disney fashion, it’s got some of the catchiest songs in existence. It’s not just “How Far I’ll Go” either. You can watch Moana either on Blue-ray/DVD, or on Disney+.
