Zack Snyder’s upcoming Star Wars-inspired sci-fi flick Rebel Moon has revealed new cast members.
Actors recently announced as joining the project include Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang. They join previously announced lead Sofia Boutella in the Netflix feature.
Though specific details about Snyder’s Rebel Moon are being kept under wraps, we have a rough outline of the story. The film follows a young woman (Boutella) with a mysterious past sent to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help save her peaceful community from a tyrannical army.
The official casting announcement didn’t offer up any concrete character details. However, The Hollywood Reporter notes sources have revealed some tidbits for a couple of these roles; Fisher will reportedly portray a resistance fighter called Blood Axe, while Bae will play “a nemesis proficient with a sword.” Hounsou will reportedly play a general (but unclear which side he fights for).
Snyder also shared some concept art for the film along with the casting announcement.
The film is actively casting additional roles, with shooting planned to begin in April. It’s actually slated for an extended production time (running through November), to accommodate plans to debut it as a two-part feature.
Snyder co-wrote Rebel Moon with Army of the Dead collaborators Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad (who also co-wrote 300).
