To the surprise of no one, Paramount has officially announced Yellowstone Season 5. The hit drama has been a rating juggernaut for Paramount. The Yellowstone season 4 finale pulled in 9.3 million viewers, doubling the season 3 finale. Making it the most-watched cable showing since The Walking Dead’s Season 8 debut episode. It appears the Dutton family drama shows no signs of slowing down.

All of the main cast will be returning for the new season; Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Gil Birmingham, Wes Bentley, Brecken Merrill, Jefferson White, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little and Ryan Birmingham. A few familiar faces have been upgraded to the regular cast. Jen Landon, who portrays Teeter, and Kathryn Kelly, who plays Emily. Both have been upgraded to regular cast status for Season 5.

VacomCBS Media Networks CEO Chris McCarthy had this to say.

Yellowstone’s record-breaking performance proves we’ve tapped a cultural nerve and unleashed a passionate audience from the center of the country to each of the coasts. Kevin Costner leads our incredible cast who make the Duttons America’s favorite family, and this new season is sure to be another one fans won’t want to miss.”

Production is expected to begin in May 2022, but no release date has been announced. Hopefully, production will not be impacted by COVID-19 like many other series have been as of late. Season 4 had a noticeable lack of interaction between main cast members. This might have been due to COVID precautions to limit risk to production.

In addition to Yellowstone, there is plenty of cowboy drama headed your way. Currently the Yellowstone prequel spin-off 1883 is airing on Paramount+. 1883 follows the Dutton family on their journey across the American frontier. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott. Another spinoff 6666 is also in development, which was set up in Season 4 of Yellowstone.
