When Season 2 of Netflix’s Raising Dion was announced I was really excited.  I absolutely loved Season 1 – it felt like a whole new take on the superhero genre. Then Season 2 happened. While I enjoyed it overall, it felt more like a Kingdom Hearts game for a handheld device than a season 2.  Raising Dion 1.5 plant attack remix dream-cycle.  Maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself.  Let’s recap.

WHAT IS RAISING DION?

Raising Dion is the story of a 10-year-old child named Dion (Ja’Siah Young) who suddenly develops superpowers. Can you imagine? The series goes on to show how he is dealing with them, and how his unpowered mother (Alisha Wainwright) is raising him to be the hero he hopes to be one day.

Season 1 of the series goes as expected. There is a lot of exploration regarding the world, the characters, Dion’s budding powers, as well as his mother’s budding love life….all the norms.  Where season 2 fails is it did very little to build on these paths we’re already on.  In a way, we started over in a lot of respects.

Season 2 aka The Trailer for Season 3

With the absence of Pat, (Jason Ritter), you know the Big Bad of Season 1, Dion’s mother, Nicole, is now exploring a relationship with Dion’s new trainer, Tevin (Rome Flynn).  Now that Dion is coming into his powers, he and his friends have formed a little crime fighting, aka bully stomping, squad operating without his mother’s knowledge. As far as the Crooked Man energy it has moved on and is infecting other powered individuals in its pursuit of Dion. The Biona scientists who are studying the powered people still don’t really understand why they got powers or what to do with them.

What I really enjoyed about season 2 of Raising Dion is the addition of Tevin. Towards the end of the season, there’s a little bit of growth from Dion’s Mother. And I like where we end up with Dion and Mom’s relationship. However, I just felt like season 2 is a crazy long trailer for Season 3 which I am VERY excited about! Did you see the stinger after credits in the final episode? If not, make sure you go back and watch!

Season 2 of Netflix’s Raising Dion premiere’s on February 8th, 2022. Stay tuned to THS for more reviews, news, and more!
