After 30 years, it looks like the Sanderson Sisters will be returning to torment the children of Salem in time for Halloween. Executive producer Adam Shankman broke the news with an Instagram post last week that filming had completed. Disney has not officially set a release date for Hocus Pocus 2, but it seems almost certain to debut during the Halloween season.
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT HOCUS POCUS 2
Hocus Pocus 2 is the sequel to the original film which was released in July 1993. It features a trio of witches, the Sanderson Sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, who feed on the life force of children in Salem. The original film was received with a mixed reception and was considered a box office failure. However, over the years it has aired frequently during Halloween and has become a cult classic for fans. Prompting Disney to greenlight the sequel for the Disney+ streaming platform.
In the upcoming sequel, the Sanderson Sisters will once again be accidentally freed and unleashed in modern-day Salem. Hocus Pocus 2 is directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Jen D’Angelo. In addition to Midler, Parker, and Najimy, also returning from the first film is Doug Jones, who portrayed Billy Butcherson. The film also stars Hannah Waddingham, Dan Finnerty, Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, and Tony Hale.
