It’s never easy to find love online. We’re always swiping left and right with a never-ending stream of possibilities. However, when Cecilie matches with a handsome billionaire she can’t quite believe it when he 1. Turns out to be real. And 2. Is the man of her dreams. However, this dream turns into a nightmare by the time she discovers this international businessman isn’t who he says he is…and it’s too late. However, where the fairytale ends this revenge thriller documentary begins. Cecilie discovers she is not the only one being conned by this man. Once his victims ban together the tinder swindler has met his match. This documentary follows these women as they tell their stories, uncover his true identity, and fight to bring him to justice. 

WHAT A WILD RIDE!

I want to preface this review by saying this will 100% be spoiler-free because I want my readers to watch and go on the same shocking journey I did while watching this 2hr documentary on Netflix. The Tinder Swindler is absolutely riveting. I loved the use of iconic moments from iconic Hollywood films to help emphasize what is being said. As well as the editing and GFX design! A++ team. Truly. 

While listening to Cecilie and Pernilla tell their stories I found myself confused, upset, heartbroken, and angry along with them. Cecilie wants nothing more than love. And while you may initially listen to her and hear her decisions with judgment, I ask you to take a step back and understand she was emotionally and mentally manipulated by a professional. Love bombing is considered mental abuse by psychologists. It is one of the most powerful tools of a narcissist. It can happen to anyone and it is one of the hardest things to move on and heal from. 

Along with Cecilie, there’s Pernilla. She was befriended and manipulated in a completely different way by a man she trusted. As we learn in The Tinder Swindler documentary, there are hundreds if not thousands of people who were conned by this man in a multitude of ways. A Professional Con Artist is good at what they do.  

THE BRAVERY OF THE DOCUMENTARY

While his victims have come together in order to do their best to take The Tinder Swindler down, the viral article only has so much reach. I can honestly say I have never heard this story before this documentary. And now, I’ll never forget it. These women and other victims deserve praise for being brave enough to come forward, go on the record, and face the inevitable scrutiny from the many keyboard warriors.

While prosecuting a con artist is difficult, I hope once the documentary drops more charges are brought on him for fraud and he is put away for a very long time. Especially with the new damming information from Ayleen Charlotte. I also wish for the women in the documentary to drop their Paypal, Venmo, and/or CashApp cause I’d love to contribute to help alleviate the damage this man has done to you.
