We have some semi-bad news Downton Abbey fans. It has been announced that the 2nd film installment, A New Era, has been delayed to late spring.

Focus Features, Universal Pictures International, and Carnival Films have announced that the global release dates of Downton Abbey: A New Era are shifting from March to late spring. Previously dated March 18, 2022, the film will now launch in theaters exclusively in the UK on April 29, 2022, and in the US on May 20, 2022

Award-winning creator Julian Fellowes has written the script and will also be a producer on the film. On top of that, the highly-anticipated cinematic return of the global phenomenon of Downton Abbey will reunite the beloved cast as they go on a grand journey to the South of France in order to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.

However, fans of the series shouldn’t fret and continue their excitement. The original principal cast is returning for the second film along with new additions Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West. Not to mention, Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning Liz Trubridge producing with Fellowes. BAFTA and Emmy nominated Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) is directing
