Want to know what was happening with the jujutsu sorcerers before Yuji Itadori made his debut in Jujutsu Kaisen? Well, that’s what Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is going to show us. At least, when Crunchyroll decides to bring it to theaters here in North America. In fact, they’ve decided to hype this anime film up with an official teaser trailer. Check it out below:

Yuta Okkotsu’s Anime Film Debut

“There’s no curse more twisted than love”: now there’s a poetically fitting phrase if I’ve ever heard one.

Crunchyroll is proud to announce via the YouTube teaser trailer above that they will be bringing the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime prequel film (starring a young Yuta Okkotsu) to North American theaters pretty soon in the future. How soon, you might ask? Well, they plan on the theatrical debut being on March 18, 2022. As of this writing, it’s just under 2 months away, so you don’t have long to wait to watch this prequel film.

Tickets for Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will go on sale starting on February 25, 2022. Said anime film will premiere in over 1500 movie theaters in both the US and Canada, and will be available in both the original Japanese audio with English subtitles, in addition to English dub. Details on where to purchase tickets will come later. You can find more info on Crunchyroll Movie Night.

If you don’t live in either the US or Canada, fear not. Crunchyroll is planning on bringing Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to theaters in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, France with CRG events, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, French-speaking Africa, and Latin America. More territories will be announced “soon”, and even the existing list only has the anime film “coming soon”. No hard release date, unfortunately. We’ll just have to wait for more info about this later.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Details

"Jujutsu Kaisen 0" theatrical poster.
As someone who hasn’t gotten around to watching the anime yet, I still wonder about the panda.

So what is Jujutsu Kaisen 0 about? Well, this is a prequel story to the anime proper. It stars Yuta Okkotsu (voiced by Megumi Ogata) as his ghostly girlfriend Rika Orimoto (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) haunts him from beyond the grave so that they might fulfill their promise of marriage to each other. Meanwhile, an evil jujutsu sorcerer named Suguru Geto (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) plans on unleashing a Night Parade of 100 Demons to create a paradise for sorcerers…by killing everyone else. Crunchyroll has an official synopsis that gives more details. Check it out below:

“When they were children, Rika Orimoto was killed in a traffic accident right before the eyes of her close friend, Yuta Okkotsu.

“It’s a promise. When we both grow up, we’ll get married.”

Rika became an apparition, and Yuta longed for his own death after suffering under her curse, but the greatest Jujutsu sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, welcomed him into Jujutsu High.

There Yuta meets his classmates, Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, and finally finds his own determination.

“I want the confidence to say it’s okay that I’m alive!”
“While I’m at Jujutsu High, I’ll break Rika-chan’s curse.”

Meanwhile, the vile curse user, Suguru Geto, who was expelled from the school for massacring ordinary people, appears before Yuta and the others.

“This coming December 24th, we shall carry out the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.”

While Geto advocates for creating a paradise for only jujutsu sorcerers, he unleashes a thousand curses upon Shinjuku and Kyoto to exterminate all non-sorcerers.

Will Yuta be able to stop Geto in the end? And what will happen to breaking Rika’s curse…?
