Well, it looks like Han Solo & Chewbacca are going to get their own comic book series soon. From Marvel, no less.
Han Solo & Chewbacca: Comic Book Hijinks Inbound?
StarWars.com just announced that Han and Chewie are soon going to get their own comic book adventure in the form of Marvel’s Han Solo & Chewbacca. As the name suggests, this comic book will star our favorite smuggler and Wookiee duo in a series of adventures taking place just before Star Wars: A New Hope. This new comic book series will feature Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow) as the writer, with penciling by David Messina (The Curse, Star Trek: Countdown).
Han Solo & Chewbacca will start their Kessel run sometime next year in March 2022. That’s as specific release date as we have for you today, unfortunately. Even worse, there’s no information on where you can preorder this Star Wars comic book yet. We’ll just have to wait for that info at a later date.
Han Solo & Chewbacca: Details
So what kind of space adventures will we get to see Han Solo and Chewie go on in Han Solo & Chewbacca? Well, Marc Guggenheim himself gives us some clues in an interview with StarWars.com in that same announcement. The exact timeline of the comic apparently takes place before Star Wars: A New Hope, but after Solo: A Star Wars Story. Guggenheim is apparently very interested in those years, where Han is wrestling with his cynical and idealistic sides. With a centuries-old Wookiee at his side, of course. Chewie will apparently provide a bounty of wisdom and life experiences…which Han will likely promptly ignore.
The story of Han Solo & Chewbacca will prominently feature the seedy underbelly of the Galactic underworld, where greed and treachery walk hand in hand. And yet, in the middle of this hive of scum and villainy, we have loyal partners Han and Chewie. They wouldn’t dream of double-crossing each other to save their lives. It’ll make an interesting dichotomy among the underworld. Especially when Greedo joins up for an adventure, and we finally get to find out why he and Han hate each other so much.
All this and more will come when we finally get to see this Han Solo & Chewbacca comic book series for ourselves.
