It’s time for a star-studded jungle-crossing action-adventure-comedy-romance movie! No, not Jungle Cruise. And not Romancing the Stone, either – but that’s closer. We’re talking about The Lost City, starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.
The upcoming feature from Paramount Pictures tells the story of a reclusive author (Bullock) and a handsome cover model (Tatum), kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) looking for an ancient city’s treasure.
And yes, this is a bit like 1984’s Romancing the Stone.
“They just don’t make movies like that anymore,” Tatum told Entertainment Weekly. “This is one of those moments to see if we can land on a new version of that sort of genre movie… This is a completely unique, original story.”
Here’s the official synopsis of The Lost City from Paramount:
Brilliant, but reclusive author Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) has spent her career writing about exotic places in her popular romance-adventure novels featuring handsome cover model Alan (Channing Tatum), who has dedicated his life to embodying the hero character, “Dash.” While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) who hopes that she can lead him to the ancient lost city’s treasure from her latest story. Wanting to prove that he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her. Thrust into an epic jungle adventure, the unlikely pair will need to work together to survive the elements and find the ancient treasure before it’s lost forever.
The feature comes from directors Adam Nee and Aaron Nee. Besides Bullock, Tatum, and Radcliffe, the movie also stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Oscar Nuñez, Patti Harrison, and Bowen Yang.
Oh, and Brad Pitt makes a cameo. (Sneak peek of that below.)
The Lost City premieres in theaters March 25, 2022.
