The Los Angeles Lakers are among the most important and lucrative sports franchises in human history. They’ve dominated the NBA since they moved to Los Angeles, and a large portion of that dominance was overseen by Dr. Jerry Buss. In a new HBO Max series titled Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers, director/producer Adam McKay guides audiences through the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Lakers.
It stars John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, Gaby Hoffman, Tracy Letts, Jason Segel, Julianne Nicholson, Hadley Robinson, Dr. Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Joey Brooks, Sarah Ramos, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, DeVaughn Nixon, Delante Desouza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, Jon Young with Rob Morgan and Sally Field.
The series is based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. Showtime was a huge moment for sports and pop culture around the world. It shot the Lakers and Los Angeles into the stratosphere of entertainment and the public eye.
The show premieres on HBO Max in March 2022.
