The Cage-Aissance continues; Nicolas Cage has signed on to play Dracula in the upcoming Universal film, Renfield.
Lately, Cage has been making smaller independent films like Pig, Prisoners of the Ghostland, and Willy’s Wonderland, but this marks his return to the studio system. According to THR, he’s playing Dracula alongside Nicholas Holt in the film. The movie, titled after Dracula’s assistant and acolyte, has Chris McKay as the director.
All of this comes straight from Bram Stoker‘s 1897 novel, Dracula. Renfield is insane and does anything for Dracula in the name of immortality. Plot details are under wraps, but the movie is described as a modern-day adventure with comedic undertones. The script was written by Ryan Ridley, with an outline by Robert Kirkman.
It’s been over ten years since Nicolas Cage has done a major studio movie, 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Hopefully, this signals an even bigger wave of the Cage-Aissance coming in 2022.
