Guillermo Del Toro is back with Nightmare Alley. Although this isn’t the typical “horror” film we’re used to from him, it’s still a mind-bending experience. Here’s the official synopsis:
In NIGHTMARE ALLEY, an ambitious carny (Bradley Cooper) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who is even more dangerous than he is.
It stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, and David Strathairn. The film arrives exclusively in theaters on December 17th, 2021. Nightmare Alley is based on a book by William Lindsay Gresham and features a script written by Del Toro and Kim Morgan. This is not, however, based on the 1947 film adaptation of the same name.
Del Toro has made sure to let people know this isn’t a straight-up horror movie. But from the looks of the trailer, it definitely has some tense moments. Whether that’s a house fire, Cooper’s character Stanton Carlisle getting beaten up, or just the overall feeling of tension that the film brings across, this is one to watch this Holiday season.
