It’s been seven years since we all went to MacLaren’s Pub with our favorite group of friends. In fact, for nine seasons, we enjoyed all of their shenanigans as Ted told his children how he met their mother. Now, Hulu is giving us a spinoff in How I Met Your Father. Now that the release date has come out, we know January will be legen…wait for it….dary!

What We Can Expect

How I Met Your Father is much like its predecessor when it comes to sharing the core plot. In the same way, we have Sophie, the presumed main character, telling her son how she met his father. Meanwhile, in those tales will be the crazy things she got into with her friends. To those who love How I Met Your Mother, it is like getting to see more of our favorite show. Even if the original cast may not appear in it at all. The official synopsis is

In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

Who We Can Expect

Creating this anticipated show are the writers of This Is Us and Love Simon, Isaac Aptaker, and Elizabeth Berger. We all know and love Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire, who will be playing Sophie, the main character. Also joining the cast will be Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Suraj Sharma, and Tien Tran as the ensemble of Sophie’s best friends.  Kim Cattrall will take on the role of Bob Saget as an older Sophie narrating the story for us.

When We Can Expect it

How I Met Your Father release date comes out in a short video in which the core cast announces that on January 18th, 2022, the 10-episode series will be available exclusively on Hulu.
