Disney’s live-action Snow White just enlisted another big name. Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig is reportedly set to write the film.
The news comes from our friends at The DisInsider, who report Gerwig has already written the most recent draft of the film. Gerwig previously wrote the 2019 adaptation of Little Women, which she also directed.
Disney’s live-action Snow White will star Rachel Zegler as the title character. Gal Gadot will star opposite her as the Evil Queen. In addition to Gerwig’s attachment, The DisInsider also revealed two character breakdowns for further casting. The film is currently looking for someone to play a younger version of Snow White and someone to play her love interest.
Young Snow White calls for a young Latina actress to play around 9 years old, who can dance and sing.
Snow White’s love interest (not actually called Prince Charming, but simply “Jonathan”) is described as a young man with plenty of swagger. The casting alludes to “Robin Hood” tendencies, which combined with the lack of Princely title may mean this story doesn’t include a royal romance at all.
The new Snow White will be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer). La La Land’s composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will provide the film’s music, expanding on the original soundtrack.
In addition to her work on Snow White, Gerwig’s writing will next appear on screen in the live-action Barbie movie.
So, what do you think of Gerwig taking on this project? Are you looking forward to a new take on Snow White? Let us know in the comments below.
