Microsoft’s 20th Anniversary Xbox Showcase showed off the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Halo series. It wasn’t a particularly long look at the series, but it gave a look at star Pablo Schrieber‘s Master Chief in the Spartan armor. The show is coming to Paramount Plus after a move from Showtime. It premieres in the first quarter of 2022.

The series has been a long time coming for Halo fans. Following multiple movie projects that went under, the series at Paramount Plus is the first time we’re getting a live-action version of the classic game series. Executive producer Kiki Wolfkill had this to say about the show:

The biggest challenge with adapting the game is, the game is designed to put you into Master Chief’s armor. What we’re asking people to do with the show is to sit back and say we’re going to present a side of Chief that you just don’t get to play in the game. For the television series, we want to be able to do something new in Halo, and we want people to be able to experience it differently. It’s such an interesting needle to thread with beloved characters.

How do you give a different perspective on them? How do you make their journey meaningful in a different way while respecting their past journey and the things that people love about the journeys they’ve been on already? It’s a constant challenge; sometimes a struggle. There are different burdens that will go onto the TV show than the game carries. So if we can navigate where we have a little bit of freedom to try to explore some different ideas or express a character differently, we try and take those… It’s amazing to have these dedicated fanbases and communities. But it’s also hard because there are so many diverse perspectives. At some point, you can’t satisfy all the voices. You need to have your own voice.

Halo premieres on Paramount+ in 2022.
