What is The Mighty Ducks franchise without Gordon Bombay? Well, we’re about to find out. In some devastating news, Emilio Estevez will not return to the Disney+ The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers season 2.

Deadline reports that there have been weeks of back and forth with Estevez’s team over the Covid vaccination requirements. So, Producers opted not to pick up the actor’s option for a second season. This requirement shouldn’t be a surprise to any SAG actor after the Union approved the mandatory status for sets. Vaccination Policies for productions have been in effect for months for any cast and crew in Zone A. (Zone A includes all actors and crew members who come into direct contact with each other). Deadline’s sources also reveal that Estevez has declined to provide assurances that he would comply with the production’s policy.

Estevez starred alongside Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) and Brady Noon in season 1. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers takes place in Minnesota where the original Ducks have become a powerhouse hockey team at the expense of the heart. When Evan Morrow (Noon) gets cut from the Ducks, his mother (Graham) creates their own hockey team. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Estevez), the Don’t Bothers (yes, that’s the hockey team’s name) rediscover the love of the game, and win a few as well.

You can find the first season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers currently streaming on Disney+.
