What if the world was ravaged by a deadly disease, forever changing life as we knew it?
Yeah, that’s maybe less difficult to imagine than it would have been a few years ago. But HBO Max’s limited series Station Eleven is here to give us a new, fictional sort of viral devastation to focus on.
The series tells the stories of survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what’s been lost. It’s based on the internationally best-selling book of the same name by Emily St. John Mandel.
Check out the official trailer for Station Eleven below.
A post-apocalyptic saga, Station Eleven spans multiple timelines to weave together different stories of survival. And based on the trailer, this one will pull on your heart strings. (I’m getting some This Is Us vibes here.)
Personally, I found myself more drawn to such post-virus-apocalypse stories a lot more before I had to live every day of real life in a pandemic situation. But hey, to each their own. Sometimes we need a fictional end-of-days to deal with reality.
Station Eleven stars Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, Daniel Zovatto, David Wilmot, Matilda Lawler, Philippine Velge, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Lori Petty, with Gael Garcìa Bernal and Danielle Deadwyler recurring. The series comes from showrunner Patrick Somerville, with Paramount Television producing.
Station Eleven arrives on HBO Max December 16.
So, what did you think of the trailer? Are you burned out by pandemic stories, or on board for an emotional drama? (Or both?) Let us know in the comments below.
